Why one label per sheet is such a waste

A 4 × 6 label covers 24 square inches. A letter sheet has 93. Printing one label per sheet throws away roughly three quarters of every page, and if you are printing onto adhesive half-sheet stock, it throws away the more expensive half of your supplies too.

Two labels fit on one sheet with room to spare, provided they are turned sideways. That is the whole trick: rotate each label 90 degrees, stack them, and cut across the middle.

How to combine your labels

  1. 1Drop a PDF that has one label per page, or several of them at once. A free run takes 10 labels, which is five sheets.
  2. 2Leave the layout on 2 per page and pick the paper you are feeding, letter or A4.
  3. 3Check the preview. Use Previous and Next to walk through the labels and see which sheet each one lands on.
  4. 4Download, then print at 100% or Actual Size with Fit to Page turned off.
  5. 5Cut across the middle of each sheet.

Paper and label stock that suits this

  • Plain letter or A4 paper, cut and taped on. Cheapest option and accepted by every carrier.
  • Full-sheet adhesive labels, cut in half after printing. One sheet covers two parcels.
  • Half-sheet adhesive labels, two per sheet. These have a split down the middle already, but the split runs across the short edge, so check the preview against your stock before printing a batch.
  • Do not feed 4 × 6 thermal rolls through this. For a thermal printer you want one label per page instead.

Printing to a 4 × 6 thermal printer is the opposite problem, and the 8.5 × 11 to 4 × 6 converter is the tool for that. If you have already peeled one label off a half-sheet, use the partial sheet tool so nothing prints on the bare backing.

Questions

Do both labels print at full size?

At 2 per page, yes. Two 4 × 6 labels turned sideways measure 6 inches across and 8 inches down in total, which fits inside a letter or A4 sheet with room for the margin. Nothing is scaled, so both barcodes keep the exact bar widths the carrier printed.

Why are the labels rotated?

A 4 × 6 label is 6 inches tall. Two of them stacked upright need 12 inches, which is taller than any sheet you can feed. Turned sideways they need 8 inches, so rotating is what makes 2 per page work at full size. Peel or cut them and the orientation stops mattering.

What about 4 per page?

Four 4 × 6 labels need more area than a letter sheet has, so that option does scale them down. It is useful for proofing a batch or for labels that carry no barcode, but for anything a carrier has to scan, stay on 2 per page.

Where do I cut?

Across the middle of the sheet, in the gap between the two labels. There is a deliberate margin around the outside and a gap between the labels so that a slightly crooked cut still misses the printed area.

What happens with an odd number of labels?

The last sheet holds one label and the other half prints blank. Five labels come out as three sheets: two full ones and one with a single label on top.

Can I use this on regular paper and tape it on?

Yes, and plenty of sellers do. Print on plain paper, cut, and attach with clear packing tape over the whole label, avoiding tape ridges across the barcode. Every carrier accepts a taped label as long as the barcode scans.

My input PDF is a letter page with one small label on it. Does that work?

Yes. Each input page is scanned for the label first, and only the label is placed on the sheet, so the blank space around it is not carried over.

Is the file uploaded?

No. The PDF is read and rebuilt by JavaScript in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server and nothing is stored.
